Using Social Media to Boost Your HVAC Career
Mike Wayde mentioned in a recent blog post that traditional methods of seeking out and researching HVAC services are, in this digital age, antiquated. Yellow pages? “Word of mouth?” Sure, these systems are still in play; in fact, 31% of the public continues to rely on advice from family and friends when it comes to recommendations for HVAC equipment and services. However, no one can deny that the platform for HVAC advertising and distribution of information is evolving rapidly, pushing social media into the lime light.
How Social Media Can Get You in the Door
For those in the midst of HVAC training, there is no better way to get noticed and stay abreast of issues in the HVAC industry than resources like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Joining groups such as Facebook’s HVAC (Student Groups) and HVAC (Business) or following Twitter’s #HVAC hashtag connects you to hundreds of others with similar interests in your field. Here you can share advice and stories, ask questions, comment on industry trends and even follow job postings. As with most careers, your qualifications from HVAC training can sometimes be outweighed by your connections in the industry. Social media tools include you in a huge network of members in the HVAC community.
Utilizing the Internet to Promote Your HVAC Business
Similar to how potential employees and graduates of HVAC training programs are showcasing their skills and interests via social media, business owners would be wise to get their name included in relevant forums on the internet. Wayde points out that “over 60 millions Americans say that the internet played a large role in their decision making process for large purchases like HVAC in the past two years.” While still not the end-all method for HVAC research (remember that 31% of consumers who still rely on word of mouth?) internet review sites like AngiesList, ServiceMagic, InsiderPages, and Yelp will only be increasing their influence in years to come. Strike now to start building up authority and trust in internet communities.
