It is pretty surprising that more people are not aware of just how lucrative HVAC work can really be. This industry is always in high demand and the money that can be made is excellent. For anyone not familiar with HVAC it is an acronym that stands for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. Employees in this field are prepared for a career that spans all seasons and economic times.
This is a skill that takes time and training so don’t think that you can just call yourself an HVAC expert because you have made some repairs on equipment in the past. You have to become certified and educated about heating and air conditioning systems from top to bottom in order to be a well paid and valued worker. If you are very handy around the house and enjoy working on machinery or performing electrical repairs you will likely be a quick study and progress through your courses with ease.
Many people begin as apprentices to journeymen that work with unions, or with local companies that hire assistants to learn the ropes. If you join through a union you will be entitled to on the job training. You will also be sent to school where you will attend classes that will show you how to read schematics and diagnose problems related to HVAC systems. Some of the larger companies will also have in house programs that will let you practice and learn basic skills and repair techniques. You may have to pay for your additional school or certification programs up front, but a number of businesses will reimburse you your expenses when you successfully complete the program.
You might also be interested in checking out the programs that are available at many of the technical colleges throughout the country. Almost all of these two year colleges now include classes in HVAC systems and repair. There are some programs that offer certain HVAC certifications in as little as a year or less. You can even find schools that have streamlined programs that let you advance quickly through the more technical areas of HVAC maintenance and repair. These schools can be very expensive and they are not available everywhere. The choice is up to you, but if you start now you will be making a good start toward a brighter future for you and your family.
