Considering a Career in HVAC? What You Need to Know
If you’re interested in an HVAC career, there are a few different things you should consider studying in order to prepare for HVAC training. HVAC involves Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning, and is a recession proof career because the industry deals with both residential and commercial applications. In getting ready for HVAC training, it is a good idea to study about refrigeration, because it is sometimes a part of HVAC systems, and plays a major role in the air conditioning portion. Sometimes, HVAC adds an R to include the refrigeration component.
All parts of HVAC are based on the principles of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics. Learning as much as you can about these three things will be of great help to you as you prep for HVAC training.
Take time to learn about different heating systems such as central, boiler, furnaces, and heat pumps. Don’t forget to focus on electric heating such as baseboard heating and resistance heating. The more you can learn about how these forms of heat work before you begin training, the easier the training will be to understand.
You will also want to take time to learn about ventilation systems. Ventilation involves the circulation of air within a room in addition to the exchange of outdoor air. There are two kinds of ventilation systems, forced or mechanical, and natural. Learning about these will give you a better grasp of course material in training.
Take time to study how air conditioning systems work and make sure you realize air conditioning systems cool, control humidity, and provide ventilation. Focus on window units, central units, and so forth.
If you can start studying the different components of HVAC training, working to get a basic understanding of the principles that guide the field, you will work toward a solid foundation of information before you begin your training.
